March 20th 2009
Sunday March 15th 2009 marked the 31st year of Calle Ocho, a festival that began in 1978 as a way to celebrate Latin American culture. It was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana and Power 96. This year, the festival stretched 16 blocks, from 11th and 27th avenues on Southwest Eighth Street, seven blocks fewer than previous years. However trimming away a few blocks didn't damper the party for those who came. There were stages packed with entertainment and where there wasn't a stage, street-corner performances sprang up.
Tanto Metro and Devonte performed for an overwhelming crowd and had the patrons waving flags from all nations as they sang songs such as “Good Times And Bad Times”, “News For You”, and was later accompanied by Florida sensation Selena Serrano to perform their latest collaboration “Hit The Gas”. After the show the Dynamic Duo were quoted saying “This event was truly a great experience for us, we are happy to be here celebrating 10 years as a duo in the music business and we couldn’t ask for a better reception from the crowd.”
Tanto Metro and Devonte next performance is scheduled to be in Belize on April 11th and 12th.
